William “Bill” Tinsley III, 78, of Springfield, IL, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. He was born on September 24, 1946, in Springfield, IL, the son of William Walter Tinsley, Jr. and Dolores Leach. He married Eloise Ann Warner on September 2, 1994, in Las Vegas, NV, and she survives.
Also surviving are his children: son, William “Bill” Tinsley IV and Amy Tinsley, both of Springfield; five grandchildren, Ian Tinsley, Corbyn Tinsley, Keeley Tinsley, Bryanna Lee (Tinsley), and Damiah Hughes (Tinsley); two great-grandchildren, Hattie and Isabel; and former wife, Nancy Tinsley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; baby sister, Sharon; aunt and uncle, Francis and Glenn Buck.
Bill graduated from Springfield High School in 1964. In 1965, he continued his education at DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago. He earned his degree in Television and Radio Instrumentation and Communications. He worked at Sangamon Electric for 13 years as an Electronic Technician. Bill was then hired as a journeyman and later, he was promoted as a radio shop foreman at City Water Light and Power for 23 years.
Bill’s hobbies included Ham Radio: call sign, WT9WT, electronics and technology constructing Arduino units. He was a member of ARRL and IBEW.
Memorial Gathering: 10 –11 am, Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Memorial Service: 11 am, Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield, with Mr. Floyd Disney officiating.
Graveside Service: 11 am Monday, March 3, 2025, at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Washington Street Mission or Cherry Hills Church.
